All Members: Update on COVID-19

13 Mar 2020 by Craig Thomas

Good Afternoon all,

You should have all received the email below from our Club Captain. Details and required actions are being updated hourly and we will wait for any further direction to come from SLSA and or SLSNSW.
At the moment Nippers will go ahead on Sunday morning but understand if you decide to stay at home.
We will let you know ASAP if anything changes.

As you will all be aware the Coronavirus (COVID-19) is causing significant disruption to almost all our lives and there remains increased risk for infection in the community.

While we all manage our work and home lives accordingly it is important to further consider our engagement in public areas and community spaces such as the Surf Club.

Collaroy SLSC is taking direction from SLSA and SLSNSW accordingly, and will continue to support its members in all ways it can.

This includes the most recent recommendations from SLSNSW attached.

We have increased our cleaning processes of the internal areas of the club. We have done our best under some immense supply chain stress to ensure adequate supply of soap, hand sanitiser and personal protective equipment. Please utilise these services mindfully and actively.

The advice from the Department of Health is changing daily and we’d recommend you keep up to date on this; https://www.health.gov.au/health-topics/novel-coronavirus-2019-ncov

In general it is very important that:
If you have travelled to (or through) areas considered ‘high risk’ you should be self isolating for 14 days after leaving the country.
If you have travelled to (or through) areas of considered of ‘moderate risk’ you should monitor your health closely for 14 days.
If you have symptoms, no matter how minor, of cold of flu such as Fever, Cough, Shortness of Breath, or other respiratory symptoms please seek medical advice, and do not attend public events, or gatherings.

Your best defence is good hand hygiene, good cough etiquette and vigilance to symptoms. Remember while we may feel like individually we can handle it or manage our symptoms, the people we contact may not be so strong or able. We value strongly the sense of support and community our club holds. We thank you for your support as the situation evolves. We will continue to ensure our Red and Yellow Flags are raised and our public is kept safe at Collaroy, albeit with a heightened awareness for the need for precautionary hygiene measures. We want you to take nothing more home to your families than the sand between your toes.

If the situation changes, or if there is news to hand regarding SLSA’s approach to our Lifesaving and or Competition commitments we will pass this on to you as promptly as we can.

Should you have any questions, concerns or general enquires please don’t hesitate to reach out to myself or anyone on the Executive.

Warm regards,
Liz Green
Club Captain COLLAROY SLSC
